FLU SEASON: Prevention is KEY

If you could have a wish never to experience the flu again or not to suffer from a migraine headache, you would most likely go for it. However, wishing cannot make it so; but a little preventative medicine can go a long way.

Preventing illness is much more desirable than paying doctor bills and taking prescription medicines, not to mention time out from work and just feeling lousy.

Essential Oils is a natural approach to support over all wellness. Thieves, specifically, is a blend that I have used for years to keep my kids well during the flu season. It contains Lemon, Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata and Rosemary.

There are several oils to aid you before you get sick and then during an illness.

The Stomach Bug

No one likes getting the stomach flu. Even the mere thought can send you running to the bathroom. However, there are a few tried and true essential oils that can assist in trying to prevent the stomach flu, as well as make you feel better if you do catch the nasty bug.

Of course, the first thing to do in prevention is to constantly and thoroughly wash your hands, especially in the wintertime when the flu is more apparent. We use Thieves foaming hand soap. It is not only plant based and non-toxic but has the Thieves Blend in it so it supports as well as cleans!

Chamomile is another one of the best ways to prevent and aid stomach ailments. Chamomile of course is great for growing on your own and this herb can help cure things from stomach upset to jittery nerves and also provide soothing relief for insomnia. I choose to use the essential oil myself and add a drop to my tea. (Reminder not ALL Essential Oils can be ingested and it is VERY important to know your company uses clean growing practices!)

Peppermint is another great oil for the stomach. Mint is excellent for aiding in digestive issues, and may slow down spasms during stomach illness.

Lemon is a great way to add flavor to your teas and waters, but also works wonders for preventative stomach illnesses. (Its in Thieves!)Lemons have vitamin C and may prove helpful in warding off the stomach bug if it is going around your home. The essential oil is high in D-Limonene! Google that word! Using fresh squeezed lemons is not the same. The essential oil is much more potent and it won’t damage your teeth! A drop or two here and there throughout the day or adding it to your teas and water may keep the stomach bug at bay. Lemon helps the body to balance the body’s alkaline levels. A well-balanced body is a healthy body.

The Common Cold

The best way to avoid the common cold is to have everyone cover their mouths and noses and wash hands frequently. However, when the common cold does strike here are the top Essential Oils to help move it along.

Cumin – Cumin packs a powerful punch when it comes to moving the common cold out of your system. You can add it to your cooking or in beverages. It supports detox as well!

Raven – Raven is a wonderful blend that contains Ravintsara, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Lemon and Wintergreen. This one you can not take internally and is best in a diffuser or applied topically to the chest and back for those respiratory needs! Reminder for all children 6 years and younger…dilute those oils! I use 1 drop to 1 tsp of of V-6 carrier oil by Young Living for my dilution.
